How reflection can both help and hinder your heart-flow business growth

imageOne of the wonderful virtues of heart-flow business growers, is that we are reflective. Sometimes we can overthink, as it can take us to a place of adventure and discovery. Bliss!

The shadow side of this is that we can use our energy in this endeavour and it feels so productive, that we feel as though we are progressing, when there is little actual evidence to show for this.

There are a couple of things to know about this….and they may be paradoxical.

Firstly, thinking is not doing…we can fill our days with thoughts and reflections and really, really not progress our business at all. Before we know it, days, weeks and months have flown by (sometimes years!) and although our ‘great idea’ is even more colourful to us, it remains visible only in our mind’s eye. This does not bode well for your business.

Secondly, thinking IS doing…not everything we do is action. Reflection IS doing. Via reflection, our confidence in our idea is growing, it’s tangibility and viability is growing…the brand is taking shape. It relates to the notion of having to conceive and believe before we achieve.

So, how can we navigate this paradox? How can we benefit from the best of reflection, whilst refereeing its shadow side?

In my experience, we need to record our reflections. Post about them, blog about them, video them, audio record them, keep a journal, post it notes, even! This way, we have a useful resource to draw upon, which if private, can inform our public ‘launch’ and if public, can be built upon in a congruent way.

An aspect of this is to TRUST ourselves. There is a reason that we do not align with traditional approaches to business. There is a reason we are heart-flowers (o, not ow!). Embrace that. ‘Till next time….
